Matthew 25: 35-40 Poem by Randy McClave

Matthew 25: 35-40

The Lord said, "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat"
You gave me the finest meat,
From me you did not lie or gave an excuse or did flee
You instead fed me.
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink
About it, you didn't have to think,
You knew that I did thirst
So, you put my needs first.
I was a stranger and you invited me in
You didn't ask me of my belief or cared the color of my skin,
You treated me like no other
I was treated as your very own brother.
I needed clothing and you gave me clothes
Now I am gentle to the eyes and the nose,
Now I am also warm and I feel anew
And it was all because of you.
I was sick and you looked after me to get well
You are a very kind and caring person I can tell,
You stayed with me until I got better
I am now your debtor.
I was in prison and you came to visit
Never did you question or hated me because of it,
Everyday you were always there
You did truly care.

The righteous then did say unto him
When did we ever see you that sad, hurt and grim,
When did we see you hungry or thirsty and gave you drink and food
And when were in that condition, that you we viewed.
When did we see you as a stranger and we invited you inside
When in our home were you warm and protected and at our side,
And when did we give you new garments to be worn
Because, your old garments were tattered and torn.
When did we see you in prison and cared for you when you were ill
When did we give you all that kindness and good will,
Whenever did we see you that way our Lord
When was that our accord.
Then the Lord will say unto them one and all
You were there for me when I made a call,
Whatever you did for the poor and the needy, the jailed and the immigrant
You did it also for me, because it was heaven sent.
