Karen's Kitty Poem by Shane Markie

Growing up,
all the kids
in the neighborhood thought
Karen's kitty was the best
because she had the softest fur.

Us kids,
we were jealous
'cuz Karen's friend Shane
always got to pet her.
She made the best sounds ever.

Shane used
his own wheelchair
and us kids we
were afraid of him 'cuz
he was intelligent and spoke Spanish

And Shane
said he was
bilingual and it scared
us 'cuz Shane knew we
was immigrants and he knew all

The barrios
and countries and
all the counties we
was from and Shane was
hella smarter than any of us.
