Juneteenth

Rating: 5.0

Light at the end of the tunnel?
Not yet, we knew.
Never, claimed them.

Martin Luther King
is not Jesus Christ,
he remains buried.

"I have a dream", he said.

he dreamed for millions,
today his dream remains
a dream for billions.

his March on Washington
continues, nothing has
changed; not even March.

Someone is trampled upon,
in every step,
Hate Marches on.

"Black life matters"
says someone whose breath's taken away
"only for blacks" adds someone else.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Slavery is an indelible mark on the history of mankind. One hundred and eighty nine years have passed since the "Proclamation". Still, we need to remind them "Black life matters". Someone, still calls someone else "Ape on the heels". The photograph shared is that of Martin Luther King Jr. delivering the speech at the 1963 Washington, D.C., Civil Rights March.. Still relevant.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

The Juneteenth was an occasion to ponder over true human nature

This poem may be read as a sequel to my old poem "Mother of Emmet Till"

Politicians revel in the power and assume that greed and are their right… the wrestling federation and Karnataka stand in evidence

Thank you, Asimji. But, my feeling is that every human being is greedy to the extent that he/she does not hesitate to use violence to achieve his/her greed

Excellent poem to remind nothing has changed, just the people are gone and new gen with same old thoughts are present. Change will not happen from outside, it has to come from within.

And, this greed and consequent hatred and violence are the root causes for the wars. Glaring example is West Asia

It is our culture and civilisation man has achieved over many millions of years that have polished us to some extent. But, when greed overtakes the Cultural heritage, he tends to revert to violence

I tend to believe that violence and hatred are the true nature of man. As Aacharya Vinoba Bhave had remarked once.
