Intrusion

I was in a dark spell and mood.
My world was filled with cloudy gloom.
It was a time and place to brood
That I did face impending doom.
I felt something upon my wrist.
A butterfly had landed there,
As if to say I did exist
To see the light somehow, somewhere.
But then the butterfly did leave,
And I was back to feeling sad.
I was depressed, so I would grieve.
But then suddenly I got mad.

That butterfly did return, and
I swatted it dead with my hand.
