If I Could Come Back Poem by M. A Heathcote

If I Could Come Back

If I could come back in another life
I'd be more goal-driven.
I'd do better at school.
I'd work harder for sure.
I'd clean up my act.
So as not to be such a frills seeker.
I would manifest all my dreams.
Even if that meant bending
Or breaking some of the rules.
I'd be more resilient and less of a fool.

If I could come back in another life
I'd want to meet the right girl first.
And I would want to make her my wife.
My go-to all-important friend
I would hope to be an altogether better man.
A better role model
A better husband, a better father
I would worship and cherish every moment.
I would learn, hopefully, from all my mistakes.
And value all my little victories.

If I could come back in another life
I would hope to avoid some of the pitfalls.
Some or all of the awful bumps in the road
Vear from some of the roadside ditches
The write-offs that have plagued me so far
But life is a game of chance.
And the hand that's dealt us is often challenging.
The challenges of this life
It is what ultimately makes or breaks us
And shapes the person we all finally become.
