I Never Meant To Hurt You Poem by John Hawkes

I Never Meant To Hurt You

I never meant to hurt you, I swear to god that's true,
How could I hurt someone so sweet, so wonderful as you?

Now all my days are lonely, and all my nights are blue,
I've hurt the one I love the most,
the one I never wanted to.

I long to hear your voice now, but know i never will,
You belong to someone else,
You're someone else's thrill.

But deep in my heart, there's only ever you,
I never meant to hurt you,
I swear to god that's true.
