The curtains were drawn
at the crack of dawn
and the light would sink its way
into every corner of the room
The darkness had vanished
and it was gone
The first conscious breath
was a gift
under the newly lit sun
The wait was almost over
and I could see you again
The memories
remained close at heart
never lost nor forgotten
The feeling
had stayed this long
I felt it could last
But it all went wrong
And the room
was empty and cold
as the pain afflicted the soul
The air
as cold as the winter chill
remained deep within the heart
The tears
although so insignificant
and so small
displayed the hurt
that finally destroyed it all
Love was slipping away
slowly through my fingertips
and the reality
was long becoming a dream
A dream which I had had
so long ago
