In the Epics,
Like Mahabharata and Ramayana,
And the Upanishads,
The Gurus are placed at high pedestals.
They are like brilliant stars,
Spreading light with their brilliance,
Sprinkling their radiance far and wide,
Sparkling bright light that dispels darkness.
Even Gods have learnt under Gurus.
Lord Krishna studied with devotion
Like any other normal child in an Ashram,
Under the guidance of Sage Sandeepani.
Lord Rama along with his brothers
Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrugna,
Left the palace and went to the forest,
To study under the guidance of Guru Vasishta.
To learn the nature of ‘Brahman'
The Sages of Upanishads,
Observed strict celibacy and
Served faithfully under their learned Gurus.
Thus, in quest of the Eternal Truth,
Svetaketu learnt from Sage Uddalaka,
Maitreyi learnt from Yagnavalkya and
Nachiketa learnt from Yama- The Lord of Death
Under the guidance of Sage Sandeepani. Lord Rama along with his brothers Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrugna, Left the palace and went to the forest, To study under the guidance of Guru Vasishta. This is really new knowledge for me.... my dear Geeta. thank u for imparting so much of knowledge......... i think even devote Hindus may not know all these what you present to us here. tony
The flow of expression and the exquisite style with which the subject has been presented makes a delightful reading experience. The poem goes into MyPoemList.
In a capsule form, you have enumerated some of the most well known personalities from Indian mythology along with the names of Sage-Gurus from whom they received their education and worldly wisdom. Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece of poetry, Geeta ji.
Another one of your great tutelages of Indian religion and belief. That then you end on the Lord of Death…Yama…made me a little sad. What is the name of you God of reincarnation? I'd rather go there.
