Guru Ramana Maharshi,
A highly evolved ‘Mauna Swami'
Spoke through his eloquent silence.
The disciples just sat next to him.
And experienced deep spirituality.
His glorious presence was enough
To elevate the seekers to spiritual heights.
According to Ramana Maharshi
"Guru is the Self.
When you realise Guru to be the Real Self
And your own self as the individual self,
Only then, the veil of ignorance is removed.
When the sense of Duality totally disappears.
That's when Self Realisation takes place."
The guidance of Guru is a must for Self-Realisation.
The Self is pure and untainted.
It is the Ego that is affected.
The Guru can make his disciple realise his folly,
By transmitting some of his own power.
But the Guru does not bring about Self-Realization.
He simply removes the obstacles in the path of Self-Realisation.
So true. There is a beautiful Shloka once I heard. It goes something like that ‘ I bow to Jagadguru who is the self...the guru of all. I could never forget that. Geeta Ji if you know the Shloka please share it with us.
Hi Geeta, Sage Ramana Maharshi never preached, never acted himself as a Guru. But, there were hundreds of devout disciples to him, where he lived his frugal and saintly life. And there are many more, to this day. Such is the character and magnificence of a True Guru. Thank you Geeta for sharing this poem.
'But the Guru does not bring about Self-Realization. He simply removes the obstacles in the path of Self-Realisation. ' - These two lines resonate with the truth. We all need a Guru to make us 'See', and Ramana Maharshi and his teachings have moved the heavy curtains from our eyes. A great tribute.
(2) Thanks for sharing Maharshi Raman's thoughts on spiritual enlightenment (self-realization) . Here the Guru basically provides the impetus to the devotee to indulge himself in this path. I would like to study the subject further so as the concept is fairly clear to me. Thanks, Geeta ji, for presenting the the poem.
But the Guru does not bring about Self-Realization. He simply removes the obstacles in the path of Self-Realisation. As far as I have come to understand, this theory envisages a very unique way for a person to internalize his efforts towards his self to realize its optimum potential in a spiritual sense. This is different from its meaning as it is explained in the context of psychology.

I would like to translate this poem
A clear explanation of Self Realisation. That the ego is still present and being effected and that the self realization is done with the Gurus help is made simple and clear but through poetry, so I most likely will remember this well; it seems only through poetry do I remember the facts, details and meanings of certain names and words. Memory Force!
