My wife's favourite poem! From an old anthology 'Improving Gems' that I 'borrowed' from a school library! She used to know it 'off by heart' and claims she still does! We both share the same sense of humour (Monty Python) Another favourite from this anthology is The Boy Stood on the Burning Deck! I knew a wicked parody of this one when I was about ten years old! Nice suggestion Lilly for bringing it up to date!

This is a great poem about what it was like at Christmas for poor people

Someone should send this poem to Cameron, Clegg and Osborne. They seem determined to send a good proportion of us back to such 'good old days.' Someone should write an updated version called Christmas Day At The Food Bank. It could mention all the poor and disabled who have been robbed of benefits.
