Blackbird Poem by Mike King

Blackbird

I'm a blackbird.
All night long I
Cry for my mate,
But she doesnt
Answer me.
Why?
Where is she?
What's happened?
Is she dead
Or alive?
Maybe she's hurt
And can't fly
Or call to me.
Maybe she's
In the bird catcher's trap.
God help her
If she is. She
Will be eaten
Or sold to a
Pet store. Living
In a cage is
Worse than death!
That seems to be
The fate of all
Blackbirds.
