Avril.(Translation) . Poem by Michael Walker

Avril.(Translation) .

Trois fantomes vinrent a moi
Et me tirerent a part
Au lieu ou les branches d'olivier
Se tenaient couchees sur la terre:
Du carnage pale au-dessous de la brume brillante.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
See Poem Hunter/ Ezra Pound/ 31/250, to read the English.
The poem is only five lines, but has a wealth of meaning. In spring, when the olive tree sends out new shoots and small branches, someone has cut down the branches and left them ' stripped' upon the ground'. What they have done is like vandalism, ' Pale carnage beneath the bright mist'.
The poem has a very relevant message for today, when so many people are worried about trees being cut down.

That is a real coincidence and I will read your poem. I am not a Green at all, but Pound's poem still appeals. Michael.
