Attitude Poem by Frank Letras

Attitude

I think I missed the point
When night turned to day
When dark turned to light
When loneliness went away.
I missed the fork in the road
When despair became hope
When bitterness became sweet
When I began to cope.
I must have passed the transition
When cold silver lunar light
Turned warm and gold from the sun
When everything became bright.
I was not aware of the exact time
When tears turned to laughter
When I was no longer morose
And looking only to the hereafter.
I’m a little unsure of when
All that hurt and sorrow
Started to disappear
And I started to look to tomorrow.
I didn’t recognise the moment
When I lost all that pain
When I stopped crying
And started to smile again.
All of this has come to pass
And somehow I missed the boat
I know I no longer have
A permanent lump in my throat.
Destiny turns on a dime
Or so it has been said
And I missed the spin of the coin
Didn’t see the tail or the head.
I looked for the tell tale signs
But somehow I missed the vital clue
All that I can be certain of
Is that it started with you.
On a cold December night
Amid a rowdy multitude
You entered my consciousness
And changed my negative attitude.
