Angel tears, angel tears falling softly as rain,
Angel tears, angel tears, falling amidst human pain,
Angel tears that can’t be seen, but only felt,
Angel tears that can make the hardest heart melt.
Lodel lo, lodel woe, lodel lo, lodel lye,
What are some of the things that make angels cry?
Despair walks alone down empty streets,
Filled with the patter of small, homeless feet.
No teddy bears for comfort, no little beds with clean sheets,
And in the dark shadows, predators watch and seep.
Angel tears, angel tears, falling on us below,
Angle tears, angel tears, blessing us now, and long ago…
When men stole bread for their children to eat, long years ago,
They were put in jails and branded criminals and foe,
Then placed in ships, flimsy and frail,
Which then for America, set sail.
Ragged men filled with thirst, and hunger ever near,
Comforted and consoled by angels dear.
With caring words one could feel, not hear,
This land was awash with angel tears.
Today immigrants seek sanctuary,
Branded as criminals, ever wary.
For their families they wanted to earn daily bread,
Now, only in church dare they rest their heads.
Angel tears, angel tears falling softly as rain,
Angel tears, angel tears, falling amidst human pain…
