A Light Has Gone Out Poem by Deanna Samuels

A light went out today
A light that was bright for 96 years
A light that had shown the way
A light for 70 years of reign
That light has gone out

Her Majesty The Queen has left us
Has left us bereft.
Our gracious sovereign for 70 years
she was there to rely upon.
Over three generations knew no other

Her every moment, a sense of duty
Her country and the Commonwealth
came first before her own desire
Her peoples were her family
wherever in the world

Her promise on coming of age
was to devote her whole life to serve
whether it be long or short.
She has kept that promise well
all through her long reign as Queen

Her light went out today.
