A Final Goodbye. Poem by Alexander Teli

A Final Goodbye.

Rating: 5.0

A final goodbye.

I was looking at you,
knowing all too well,
that you could not see me,
maybe my thoughts of you,
somehow you could read my thoughts,
maybe a bright neon sign,
above your eyes, or in your mind,
to get a reaction from you,
but then again,
I noticed you weren't breathing.

Cold to my finger tips,
I wanted to gently touch you,
gently for fear that I might hurt you,
knowing all too well,
that you could not see me,
and then again,
I noticed you weren't breathing.

You looked at peace,
I hope you were,
totally oblivious to all within ear shot of you,
calmly on your journey,
no one rushing you,
walking straight and without aid,
and as before, once again
I noticed you weren't breathing.

From life to dust,
a life lived to the fullest,
full of smiles and warm moments,
full of tears and utter despair,
may your journey now be short,
may your peace be eternal,
and may your regrets be not your concern any more,
since,
I noticed you weren't breathing.

Where ever you travel,
whomever you encounter,
be greeted with love,
without fear,
lacking pain,
walk tall without aid,
spread your smile mercilessly,
even though I now know,
that you aren't breathing,
I know you will live for ever.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A few years ago someone very close to my heart passed away. She was in fact akin to a sister that I never had. To say I loved her, is immaterial, for I did. I miss now and will for ever. She was my friend.
She died far too young because of that dreaded disease Cancer.
This is a poem about the last time I spent a little time with her; she was in fact already dead.

Your poem is incredibly touching and I felt a sense of deep grief as if it was I, who had been confronted with the painful realisation that my friend was no longer breathing. Thank you for sharing!
