50 People - 43 Poem by Raj Dronamraju

50 People - 43

43

Candace's altercation
And no one cared afterwards who was the one who started it
Candace's accusation
That her ex-boyfriend sexually assaulted her and no one believed her

Candace's embellishment
She burst into tears when she discovered her bicycle had been stolen
Candace's emphasis
She went from one boyfriend to the other never happy in any relationship

Candace's altercation
She played the blame game with life itself
Candace's accusation
That a guy she dated briefly (but did not sleep with) did something inappropriate

And how she blew that up into a parade float
And how she filled it with all the details of her prior abuse by the ex-boyfriend
Then let fly and it dragged the poor fellow away by one leg over the heads of surprised onlookers

And, after that, Candace rifled through her sexual history like an old homeless man looking for recyclables in the trash
All the negative patterns exposed
All the negative patterns repeated
