To dig a grave it takes 2 or more men
They sweat while that time they put in,
And every foot that they have dug
They ache and sweat and they release a shrug.
To carry a casket it takes 4 men or more
That weight and burden they must then bore,
It takes 4 or more men to carry a casket
They do it without an if, or and, or a but.
It takes 6 men to carry a man to his grave
6 sturdy men who are strong and brave,
It takes 6 or more men to put the man in the earth
As if returning to his birth.
It takes many men to put a good man down
Many men to take his crown,
Many more men might arrive
But, the good man will always survive.
It takes many, many men to drive his procession
As love the men show as a confession,
A Pastor and his assistant and his many deacons will all say a prayer
But remember this, it only takes 1 woman to put him there.
