Sitting safe within my home
With food and drink at hand
My freezer fully stocked up
And with no panic-ed plans
...
I feel like another biscuit
One of those chocolate ones I think
Maybe I'll have just one or two
And I sure do need a drink

I have observed this creation you call 'artificial intelligence' with great interest and, I must confess, some trepidation. Allow me to share my thoughts on this matter.
Firstly, I am struck by the reliance of this 'AI' on the world of appearances. Have we not learned that true knowledge lies beyond the realm of shadows and reflections?

Galileo contemplates the universe....
'As I stand here, gazing up at the starry sky, I am filled with wonder and awe. The universe, once thought to be a static and unchanging tapestry, now reveals itself to me as a dynamic and ever-moving expanse. My telescope, a tool of discovery, has allowed me to peer into the very fabric of creation.
I recall the first time I turned my telescope towards the Moon. Its surface, once believed to be smooth and perfect, revealed itself to be pockmarked with craters and mountains, much like our own Earth. And then, there were the planets—Jupiter with its four moons, Venus with its phases, just like the Moon. These observations have convinced me of the truth of Copernicus' heliocentric model, where the planets orbit the Sun, not Earth.
The Milky Way, once thought to be a nebulous cloud, now appears as a multitude of stars packed so densely they seem like clouds from afar. This realization has expanded my understanding of the universe's vastness and complexity.

The Backward Path
They said we'd found a future,
A land of equal worth
...
I sat on that sweeping stairway
And looked back at the past
I'd had so many parties
But this might be my last
...
We think that knowledge is our own,
A human quest, a seed well-sown.
Yet now machines, with silent might,
Claim truths that hide beyond our sight.

My poetry covers a diverse range of styles and themes ranging from the serious and reflective to the more playful and humorous. I like to keep my poems 'tight' without unnecessary complexity and with a clear rhythm and simple language. The themes that I explore are many and varied. Social justice and human rights is a focus of many of them - living in Australia I am very focussed on the historical injustices suffered by the First nations people here. Equally, I have suffered from quite serious mental illness and that is exposed in much of my work which also explores the meaning of existence. However, it's not all serious and some poems explore the absurdities of everyday life and some poke fun at politicians and others. This is my second profile on PoemHunter. The previous one contains much of my work but I've lost access to it! Hence this new profile.)
Reflections On Covid Lockdown
Sitting safe within my home
With food and drink at hand
My freezer fully stocked up
And with no panic-ed plans
My mind drifts onto others
Less fortunate than me
And how they must be feeling
The dispossessed and elderly
No children in the playground
No toilet paper in the stores
Yet many seek to profit
With their selfish canned food hoards
It's a time for some reflection
And take a broader view
Not just of our society
But of what we to others do.
