Walter Wykes Poems

BREATHLESS
I am breathless in your arms

You hover over me
a dark angel
...

It seems fitting
that the men you knew in life
perform this task
...

3.

your mansion rises
in the middle of a clearing
a dense wood, prowled by lions and wolves
the drugged and deadly victims of your magic
...

Ghostly lovers haunt the sky
Two vast bodies churn like mad
Blocking the sun
...

I want to get under your skin
into your bones
your dark corners
but you're not prepared for that
...

Thousands of black leaves in the trees
When there should be none.

Leaves immune to the cold winter wind,
Leaves with tiny yellow eyes.
...

I.
O, ancient rulers of the Earth,
O, race of mighty warriors,
O, evolutionary giants,
...

eighty year sleep
dreams of long ago
four hundred yellow daisies
plough the field
...

your laughter echoes still
in that bright field where you played
so carefree, little goddess
arms white as milk
...

Breathless

BREATHLESS
I am breathless in your arms

You hover over me
a dark angel
your wings spread
folded round me
moving slowly
hovering
hovering

I can just make out your shape
your outline
the curve of your breast

I strain to see more
but you cling to the darkness
It is your shroud
your temple
the nothingness that binds us together

I seek your warmth
your dark river

I float downstream effortlessly
I let the current take me where it will
through your secret passageways
your ancient caverns

Somewhere in the darkness
I hear your soft scream
your muffled cry

Breathless
I am breathless in your arms
