My limbs stretch not, my spine stoops,
My joints bend not and my head droops;
My eyes spy not Nature’s species pry
My ears hear not the rumble in the sky

Today greets you with hopeful stare,
While unseen tomorrow instills scare.
Why dream of an uncertain day beyond
Ignoring the day here and around?

Weep not over the dead, weep for the living;
For the mother, over her martyred son, grieving,
For the nestling baby in the nest, its mouth gaping
For a morsel from its mother in vain and gasping
...

To think less and talk more
Put your mind behind and tongue before
Listen less and preach more
To be an ignorant bore
...

I learnt my lessons from my loving Ma
An early morning riser to do her chores
Chanting holy mantras to ease her mind
Amidst her work for hours on end
...

I will give half of my breath to my sweetheart
Let her live long; her present state breaks my heart
Suffering and struggling for a whiff
Of fresh air; to sustain life for her is tough
...

Walking on our roads is not as gay as you say
Before you venture out, to the gods you pray
For blessings to let you see another day
Not crippled or maimed but in mettle to stay

Two little houseflies embarked on their honeymoon flight
And landed on my breakfast table in the dim morning light
They hopped from cup to cup and squatted on my bread
I hit them with a fly flap and one fell dead

Years ago in my newly built home
A curry leaf sapling, I planted in form;
I nursed it like my own child with care
And it grew into a tree with luxuriant fare

Awards and rewards tend to corrupt and tempt
Ambitious mortals; they deserve contempt
