Varun Sivashankar Poems
No doubt one of my favourite games, Is none other than cricket, I like the high emotions when, There is a six or a wicket.
My Dad's Work
My mother shouts at me and says, "Don't play ‘catch the ball', The noise will disturb your father, He's on a conference call."
Exams are coming; they're not too far, With the portion I'm not on par. The mounting homework grows day by day, My hair is slowly turning grey.
Another World: Dreams
The reflections of our subconscious mind, While sleeping, hold us in their eternal bind. In the mystical mysterious land of dreams, Nothing is ever like how it seems.
Once I looked up at the sky, On a calm and peaceful night, I saw the heavenly shining stars, That lit up the world with light.
Sights From A Train
Many things go past us, While we're sitting in a train, The beautiful scenery for instance, We'll never see it again.
The Doctor's Fear
My mother was talking on the phone, When the word ‘doctor' she said, A shiver went through my every bone, Scary thoughts came to my head.
My Brother's Excuses
My brother hates to study, To avoid it he'll find a way, If you force and make him study, This is what he'll say.
On A Swing
I was sitting on a swing, I was on a high, The fresh air blowing in my face, As I moved towards the sky.
Life is full of difficulties, And tugs to pull you down, But unless you face your problems, You will be left alone to frown.
When it finally came, the season of spring, I thought I'd enjoy everything. But the singing of the birds drove me raving mad, Insects in my house everywhere I had.
My Adventures In The Sea
On the sandy beach I lay, When the waves came to take me away. For an adventure the waves took me, Into the vast depths of the deep sea.
Colours are everywhere, Where to begin, let's see, From the blue of the sky, Or the green of the tree?
Pierced by the mountain peaks, so very high, Directed by the wind in the blue sky. I travel ‘round the world and everything I see, Nothing escapes my notice, whatever it may be.

No doubt one of my favourite games,
Is none other than cricket,
I like the high emotions when,
There is a six or a wicket.
When it's a close match,
We bite our nails,
When our team wins,
Our players we appreciate.
Cricket is the best game far and wide,
I am sure that I am right.
We spend all our pounds and pence,
To see sixes and fours racing to the fence.
ODIs are interesting,
Ticket sellers are few,
And people who want ODI tickets,
Have a long, long queue.
Cricket is the best,
