STEVE HOFFMAN Poems

Here we go
My taxes arent paid
Cant remember last time I got laid
...

If you’ve ever played chess
you’ll no what I mean
Six moves ahead, and there go the queen
...

It’s been asked for ever
The question of where we are
The presents of a planet
Warmed by a close star
...

I sit and I watch, such a beautiful breeze
These colors, these hues
Just looking at trees
...

That brunette with brown eyes
At nine foot three
The size she wants you to see
...

There’s a light In the sky
So round and so clear
Off in the distance
Silhouette of a deer
...

7.

Smile
She’s a woman
A lover
A friend and a Pal
...

Those Big Brown Eyes
An attitude so inviting
That independent style
That sweet grin so exciting
...

Looking across the field
The early morning dew
The silhouette of deer
Just barely in view
...

As I lie here in bed, just tossing and turning
I think of that smile and get that tough yearning

I tell myself that its night time again
...

It was a noble thought
An honest decree,
To take this new land
And declare ourselves free
...

Where I Belong, By The Sea

Here we go
My taxes arent paid
Cant remember last time I got laid

Im sitting on the porch
Listening to the sound
It’s nature in the field
I’m watching the deer chow down

My gas tanks half full
My windshield is cracked
My attitudes bad
Im moving,
Not even half packed

I bought Into the American dream
A house and a truck
And payments that scream

Gees what a dream

Im leaving the rented house by the field
Got me a new place
High interest, and payments
And a thirty year yield

Im into my years
Not getting any younger
If I pay my insurance and my taxes
Ill probly die from hunger

So I figure like this
Ill pay them one at a time
And when I get through
Ill be able to eat on my last dime

As I catch up on this dream
And the payments that scream
Another month goes by
Another payment to try

I live on the coast
Real close to the water
Huricane insurance!
Something else to barter

Im not complaining
So don’t accuse me of that
Im moving into the woods
Where I can sit happy and get fat

If I lived in Mississippi I could set up some stills
To supliment my income

Then I could jack up my house
And sell all the wheels
I think ill pass on the stills

No, that’s not where im at
Or where I want to be be
Ill keep my high payments
and stay close to the sea
