A Change Of Song

My past is my present
My future ceases to exist
I live in a world of pain
Just like my body insists

An addict at heart
It feeds off of pain
It wouldn't know these feelings
If it weren't for my brain

Replaying past experiences
And sending signals just to feel
The same feelings in this moment
Appear to be just as real

As the scars from my past
Forever remain scarred in my eyes
I've learned to adjust to the pain
And have the feeling memorized

Just as I would for a song
Impossible to forget
It's always playing on repeat
Volume full-blasted inside of my head

Until one day, I found a switch
In my relief, I turned the music down
I opened up my mind beyond feeling
And my thoughts were what I found

Refusing to listen to another song
Containing lyrics of despair
I'm finally changing the song
To something my body hasn't yet dreamed to dare
