Sonia Walker Poems

sunset evening with
red-orange display marks sky
awesome wonder and
a celestial movie show
...

The coolness of the evening breeze,
softly caresses her high-boned cheeks,
dreamy almond eyes stare toward the
parched mountains of the desert,
...

insomnia steals sheep

capturing them for ransom
...

froggy went courting

on a sultry summer day
...

Daddy worked from dusk to dawn
as a miner close to home,
his hands were dirty and painfully sore
when he walked tiredly through the door.
...

strawberry salad

buried treasure in whipped cream
...

Plasmana, the vampirette
was invited to the annual ball,
hosted by Count Shevesky who
was handsome and six-feet tall.
...

Flying leathers with the wind,
engine roaring at top speed,
black-gloved hands gripping handles,
golden wings crown her glory,
...

Among the vast terrain
of willow and spruce
with background of
snow-capped mountains,
...

Memories of the old dance hall
are sealed in the mind
of a middle-aged bopper
who remembers the magic
...

Where does the snowy trail lead,
to a trapper's cache by the frozen river
or to a warm cabin glowing with embers,
this is the path that the handsome wolf
...

our freedom bell rings

calling all to muster now
...

Mama bird builds nest
Papa bird supervises
Twigs and grass nestle
In a lofty cradle hid
...

Sitting on the front porch in the evening shade,
strumming on a flattop guitar that was made
to play along with a country song
about a sad heart who was done wrong.
...

When in a creative mood,

I chew bubble gum while
...

Today I became your grandmother,
I hold you in my arms,
you are my sweet bundle of charms,
the old maple rocking chair rocks slowly,
...

She's an unpolished stone,
waiting to be shined,
her goodness and maturity
will develop with age
...

Listen to the wind when its
hush transforms into twirls
of laughter while dancing with
the gods till the break of dawn,
...

writing is a lonely street
wandering thoughts
knocking on doors
no one answers
...

riding the subway

free graffiti art shows move

Sonia Walker Biography

I have been writing for thirty years. Most of my writing appeared with the small presses and journals during the last century. In the 1990s, I was an editor and co-publisher of Moose Bound Press, a quartely journal based in Anchorage, Alaska. Breast cancer ended the vibrant and exciting career, but by the Grace of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, I survived. Creative writing provides a healthy outlet for me. There is a joy in reading and writing poetry.)
