Where Do I Hide? Poem by Kerri White

Where Do I Hide?

In the presence of Emotion,
I hear your voice calling-
commanding the unheard of,
revealing the inner-most.
Your secretness is refreshing,
but your bluntness scares me so.

I am told to run from you,
to hide behind love and feeling.
You've never been to these places,
so you'll never be able to find me there.
If doubt overcomes,
maybe it won't hurt me as much as you do.

I'm leaving for a reason,
that I've yet to know.
The worst feeling in the world
would be to stay a while and let you leave first.
I've packed my dedication and I've headed out the door.
If desertion frightens you, stay far away from home.

My regrets have left me breathless.
In me they are no more.
I walked out on my own infatuation,
and I don't have enough courage to leave the door unlocked.
I'm settling for rebellion,
though I plead self-defense.

I'm leaving for a reason
that I've yet to know.
The worst feeling in the world
would be to stay a while and let you leave first.
Your memory upsets me as I call your name...

Where do I hide?
