This Dream Poem by maddy macleod

This Dream

the wind stings your face
as you glide down the mountain side.
your skis are perfect.
new,
shining,
everything is amazing.
the snow flies by like a million
small ghosts.
you smile.

it is suddenly dark as you awake.
a blackness as you open your eyes.
a death so sudden that it doesn't occur to you
what has happened.

i man,
covered,
by all of your memories
stands in front of you.
you see your family,
your daughter
son
wife
or husband.
you see your dog
who died when you were 2,
the cat your parents had when they
first married.

a dream, thank god,
just a dream.
