Slave Poem by Cin Sweet

Slave

i asked her just once
'i'm a bird', she said
'sparrow with clipped wings
raped, degraded
used up and nearly wasted
never no way to escape
nowhere to fly
caged, locked up tight
no place to hide
so I learned, honey
to be a bird, the kind
that can turn their eyes around
look right inside
that way i could see
the truth, and the light
and live with myself
inside, long after
on the outside..oh
honey, don't you know
was years ago
i died
