S.N.A.F.U



Breakfast is cold
conciliatory conversation has ended
as abruptly as life
your eyes, like mine, reflect mood
pure mood
fingerprints in cold sweat
coat the surface of the table that separates us
snow falls instead of rain this time of year
appropriately setting the scene
the clock never sounded so loud
and silence never sounded so absolute
so final
so deadly
the morning is dark
as black as night actually
the room is lit only by a fire
that is quickly dying
you breathe
I breathe
but we neither know what to say
nor how to say it
but maybe its better that way
we hurt each other
with the things we want to say
its all been said before anyway
I touch you and pull away
but not before I feel how warm your skin is
I put my head down slow
if only to steady my heart
but I look up to find you gone
as quickly as you appeared
and all I can do is close my eyes
and listen to the sounds you left behind
slow breathing
and footsteps beating a path to this table
that separates us
where breakfast is cold
and love has died
all that's left to say is
we tried...
