Prima Donna Poem by Connie L. Burchett

Prima Donna

Sitting here and thinking about the day you
were born. A tiny bundle of joy so sweet
and innocence you were on that day.

The days sped by as I watched you grow:
an infant, a toddler and now you’re in school.
Oh! Where did the time go?

Thick blonde hair and eyes of blue with a
little turned up nose and an attitude that you
just can’t lose; the most popular girl in school.

The girls want to be you so the imitation starts:
all pretend and want to be your friend
but envious of whom you are.

The boys stop and stare and can’t believe
what they just saw: the Prima Donna of them all.
Oh, the silly things they do for your attention.

You break their hearts but they don’t care,
they just want to be where you are.
Friends are no longer friends when it comes to you.

Your beauty and personality by far is a treasure
to behold. You are a blessing to all who comes
around, you never use a disguise.

My how you have grown and one day a woman,
take this knowledge with you and use it for
good in all the things you do.

You will always be a Prima Donna this I know,
though you don’t mean to I know this too,
you will break hearts wherever you go.
