Moon River Poem by Richard Theze

Moon River

Rating: 5.0

I am reminded
Again,
Of a first chance
To dance
On common ground
Of kindled romance
To be,
Still
Never to be,
Your rainbow's end
Opposed to me

Like two sides
Of the same river
Wrong place
Wrong time
The decision
To cross
Not yours
Nor mine

So much
Was
Left unsaid
Undone
As the moon
Slipped away
And the music
Played on.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was recently contacted on a social networking site by an old flame. She was 13 and I was 17. Her parents stopped us seeing one another, but we had one very special evening together rather a long time ago.

I like this wistful poem about potential (in romance) that was never realized. It makes you think 'What if? '.... The imagery of the'rainbow's end' opposed to me is good choice...as well as opposing sides of the same river... Well done and deftly written. I especially like this one...

Her name was Sharon; she was 13 and I was 17. We danced to Moon River at a party and kissed. Her parents prevented us from seeing one another again. I was recently contacted by her sister on Facebook and we are in touch again after 40 years. Ironically, the age difference doesn't matter anymore.
