Maybe Forever Poem by Lora Colon

Maybe Forever

Rating: 5.0

The moon's like a lantern
In the midnight sky;
Its light is reflecting
In your sad grey eyes,
While a whippoorwill calls
And its mate replies.

Our hearts beat together
In perfect rhyme,
Like many lovers' hearts
Since the dawn of time;
But tonight is our night,
And our love is sublime.

How long will I love you?
I can't say for sure;
I want to say forever,
But nothing endures;
Don't question me now,
Tonight I am yours!

This is beautiful. The pace is very comfortable, and the rhyming so naturally adds to the beauty of the imagery. :)

as i saw just now that BJ left this comment about the poet on PH in 2013: To miss reading Lora Colon's poetry would be like never tasting Dr. Pepper, late harvest German wine, or my mom's apple pie, like never jumping out of plane, like never experiencing a family of whales playing in a California cove on a foggy beach as the sun sets, Herman Hesse's poems, or Mahler's 9th. My friend, you are about to discover gold, powerful magic, (and may even encounter God) ! Read on. Time's a wasting! ...............i must say he MAY have gone a bit overboard! but he can be over the top at times, can't he? and if one ever finds “God” in one of your poems, they will be using a finely-toothed comb to be sure! now, where was i? oh yes, about to read a poem. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - though I may never have seen and perhaps never heard this bird, as a birdwatcher I feel I must educate you! [of course this is the closest I think I’ve ever come to finding a typo in one of your poems.] “ • Eastern whip-poor-will ***** Bird • The eastern whip-poor-will, is a medium-sized nightjar bird from North and Central America. The whip-poor-will is commonly heard within its range, but less often seen because of its superior camouflage. It is named onomatopoeically after its song. Wikipedia “ *****note the hyphens in this nightjar’s name! what a couple of weird names! ! ! whip-poor-will and nightjar! ! ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I want to KNOW why the eyes are sad! But as long as I’m YOURS for the night, I’ll not ask questions. let’s go, Baby! I’ll make this night one you’ll ALWAYS remember! ! ! heh heh endures/yours …………… close enough! nice job. a brief encounter, briefly written. if it weren’t a ‘love poem’ I might send it to MyPoemList. bri :) :)

It's a sweet love song. It's a sweet melody. A gentle, soothing breeze. A sea of soft moonshine. 'Don't question me now, Tonight I am yours! ' Thanks for saying this so beautifully. May your love flow like this for ever! 10/10.
