It Was Love Poem by Brooke Luchich

If I could re-write a brand new ending to our same old story then I would,
I’d start at the beginning and relive each and every chapter if I could.
I still love you, I always have, I always will and I just wanted you to know,
Something in your smile makes me think I wasn’t the only one not ready to let go.
I have held back everything I’ve wanted to say and now it’s time to make it clear,
I miss you and it’s like I’ve lost the best part of me since you haven’t been here.
I’ll never forget all the sweet things you said and I still listen to our song,
You will always be my favourite hand to hold no matter who else comes along.
When I was sad you could always make me smile and now it’s not the same,
I don’t feel like being happy anymore and for that I’ll admit it’s you I blame.
I’d never cared for relationships but that all changed the day that we met,
I got butterflies when I heard your name and your smile I could never forget.
The best feeling was when you held me it was like all my dreams had come true,
And I know that I’ll never fall in love like that again, the way I did with you.
Everyone said it wouldn’t last but when we were together we never cared,
And I know I could never bring myself to regret what you and I once shared.
Sometimes you have the right person and it’s just the timing that’s wrong,
It’s like finding your soul mate and realising they were there all along.
Maybe it’s like that with me and you and we’re meant to figure it all out,
Whatever the outcome I know what I want and it’s something I’ll never doubt.
From the very start I had my mind made up that what we had was there to stay,
It was love and although we’re no longer together, the feelings will never go away.
