If Looks Could Kill Poem by Will Richey

If Looks Could Kill

If looks could kill

If looks could kill, they say
Well, looks can kill
I've seen it in the stare past
Dead twinkle in the eye
If looks could kill
A remembered heat
Just a shimmer now
Mirage fading in the sunset
Hole hearted ache dying slowly
Like an newborn stretching, toward
Sunlight glinting off the surface
Cold tentacle choking
Pulled back to the depths
Never drawing a blissful breath
Voiceless throat raw, drowning
Succumbing to a numbing look
