Higher Ground Poem by Ian Quinn

Higher Ground

For the most part, this is a poem. But I ended up structuring it differently and thought it may also work as a song. Originally, there was no repeat of any section, I also removed the structure labels for posting.

Poet of riotous descent,
Narrowed in nescient bliss
Cradled by a blind repent
Lulled by deceptiveness

He is a word of terror
From the savageness he praised
No more dangerous than a nightmare
Flailing madly in a daze

Wretched creatures in the curtains
Shifting light to their tastes
Switching faces, shedding skin
Through forsaken hearts we waste

It can build an ocean’s shadow
A swimmers mirror, twisted through
In a cage that can’t be rattled
Seen only as a landscape view

Hand of metal, lack of light
Blurred inside, starry-eyed
Good decisions, healthy mind
Gone to die, gone to die

Wretched creatures in the curtains
Shifting light to their tastes
Switching faces, shedding skin
Through forsaken hearts we waste
(x2)

We ask of them, show us mercy
