Hand - Me - Downs! Poem by Barry Van Allen

Hand - Me - Downs!

It was just another gathering,
of ' The Fat Old White Guy Club ',
I am the only one that calls us that,
- - - but, everybody knows it.

Bless her for her vain attempt,
to make us feel young,
while feeding us the worst things for us,
... it is as if she wants us done!

Well, it isn't going to be that easy,
'cause we are not well known,
around the town, for going down,
- - - unless it is in flames!

It was just another gathering,
... of memories and smatterings,
... of guys that know each others eyes,
... who play bad cards and work too hard,
to remember what thier youth was.

That is the easy explanation,
with maybe too much truth involved,
for the old white guys to deal with,
knowing little has been solved,
- - - since we were young.
- - - and knew just how,
- - - and didn't get it done!

For those of us that once were taught,
to duck beneath our desks at school,
because, the bomb would happen,
we see the cold war getting slightly cool.

On the other hand...
we hand it down,
just as our parents did,
and feel proud somehow,
that there's a planet to hand down!
