Earth Wind & Fire Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Earth Wind & Fire

My sinful life was steeped in shame
In Satan tightly bound
I failed to know God’s holy name
No truth in me was found

But when my God Your Flame was felt
Inside my heart of stone
Through love it soon began to melt
And thrill me to the bone

My wayward life had little worth
How oft I’d wished to die
Till in my mind I left the earth
And reached out to the sky

I felt Your Wind upon my face
He held me up in flight
I felt I had to leave my place
And rise towards the light

On eagle wings I seemed to soar
We soon lost sight of land
I wished to fly forever more
Within Your unseen hand

How safe my God I felt up there
Upon Your precious Dove
You took the hurt my every care
Caressing me with love

Your Dove brought me His Holy Flame
He purged and made me pure
I know I’ll never be the same
Of this I’m more than sure

Continue Lord to burn inside
Until Your servant’s new
Until the youngest day I glide
Within Your realm and You!
