Downfall. Poem by Denice Woods

Downfall.

As I look into your eyes
I can see myself
I see that when I'm with you
I become someone else.
With every word you speak,
A blatant lie lingers in the air
And I breathe,
Dying to believe
That you could ever really care.
The crazy thing is,
We really are meant for each other
We are so much alike
Yet I see that now all I might get the chance to be
Is your lover.
There is always another
There always was.
That never mattered to me before
But somehow,
Now it does.
But not as much as I thought it would
And it does no good
To try to turn back now
So I continue
Impatiently awaiting an outcome
That may never truly come
My heart is my greatest downfall.
