Donation Poem by William B. Watterson

Donation

i went on down
and
gave a pint
to save his life
everyone was doing it

they drew it out
through a plastic tube
while
i lay
on a metal table
counting ceiling cracks

they fed me
oatmeal cookies
while
i turned
specterwhiteleadbelly
loafing laughing lounging
for an extra ten minutes

humanitarian smiling
i emerged
through double doors
red plastic droplet
of courage
on my lapel
nothing to it

yes
i went on down
and
gave a pint
to save his life
at least
they said it would
