Cotton Fields Poem by Marilyn Lott

Cotton Fields

Growing up in the cotton field
Families worked the well-used ground
Tilling the soil and planting the seed
So a cotton crop could abound

As the years pushed on forward
More modern methods were found
I can hear that machinery even now
With the clanging banging sound

Lives turned in different directions
As kids grew up and left the family home
But there’s still a little woefulness
Kinda wanting to go back and roam

It’s fun to look at old pictures
Yes, it sure does you me back
The machinery made things easier
Than going down the row with a sack

It’s so good for kids to have a job
Whether picking cotton or mowing lawns
‘Cause when they look at pictures later
It shows your roots and where you belong!
