Big House Poem by Dorsey Baker

Big House

You are
standing on the doorstep
knocking upon the door
but they won't let you in
they won't let you in
they won't let you in
the big house
you can't get no
shelter from the storm
the rain
is pouring down
andyour body
is soaking wet
you are afraid
your children might
get sick
your mother
is really very old
and she is walking
with a walking stick
she is on the doorstep too
knocking upon the door
but still
they won't let nobody come in
they won't let nobody come in
they won't let
nobody come into the big house!
they have locked the door
because they don't
want nobody to come
into the big house!
