Back Door Poem by Norb Aikin

Back Door

Outside that back door
is a personal statement.
Leave it alone.
Now because I have a home I can look out
and see that life has a whole new meaning.
There are leads
to places we've never seen
but this door
is a bridge to a past
that lingers only to serve
as a reminder of where one comes from.
I want to go back
but my better judgment gets the best of me.
You can't always relive the past
and expect things to work out the way you want them to.
Foreshadowing is not an option
but hindsight is a great companion
of today-
tomorrow's past.
When you can look back,
out that back door,
and say next time you'll know better
without having to open it
then you will know
the roads ahead will lead to something positive and worthwhile.
