Ave Maria Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Ave Maria

Rating: 5.0

Today in church
I had come to me a sign
I couldn't help noticing
even if I was trying
It is mass New Years Day
Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
and then they began singing Immaculate Mary
a song I never noticed before
as I sang along I thought of you more
and wished somehow life was different and you were near
and then this music I heard in my ear
Ave, Ave, Ave, Maria!
Ave, Ave, Maria!
a spiritual connection with the one
who's thought was in my heart
Maria is the name of Mary
Later in the mass, another song sonding pure
and again and in my head I'm sitting near you
feeling your hand in mine and feeling so secure
Anna was my Grandmother's name
and means 'grace'
and such a nice lady she was when I think of her face
my mind wanders and feelings condense
and then suddenly I have this funny sense
that God is sending me a sign
Somehow maybe you and I are part of some design
and then the song is sung:
Hail Mary: Gentle Woman I think was the song
and on the facing page:
Ave Maria
Sombody's trying to tell me something
I hope my imagination isn't wrong
because to me you are like a song I long to sing
I feel like a begger
