American Nightmare Poem by Karissa Harbuck

American Nightmare

Slowly Invading
Growing bigger and brighter

Modern America calls your name

The American dream
Dripping with contempt

Hard to obtain,
But still so soft to the touch

Constructed in your head
While wishing for a break
from the relentless heat
And analyzing the situation
influenced by your dreams

The American dream
Dripping with contempt

The dripping is complex
With hints of blood, red, and blue
The drippings, they collect
From the glorified dream,
That is just an empty net
For the hopeless happiness
That only lasts,
Not long enough.
