So one day

When I met a man who claimed to know me
Only
...

2.

You forgot to give me
What was mine.

Again.
...

This is just to say that
This is not for you.

That each morning,
...

I fell in love yesterday
And today I fell out of it
...

what'd you think it was anyway?
my time to lie on the couch?
did you think under the pretenses
you'd finally get an answer?
...

Ever so often you wish
That the words they said
Would be yours.
That you could say it
...

They felt unwanted
unreal
unbecoming
unmine
...

She says she doesn't like
What they say,
Neruda, Akhmatova and Amichai.
Says she'd rather listen to me.
...

The connoisseur.

He owns a glass of wine to his hand
Takes in a mouthful.
...

10.

Lying awake in bed,
Playing with time
On a Sunday morning
Thinking of spent nights
...

I could promise
To never do it
Again...
...

A Paper Plane
Sits
On a chair
In the balcony
...

Sunday.
I don't eat by myself
So I leave the television on
To fill in.
...

Sometimes I wonder
If I had every meal
On time
And ate a lot
...

Toes in wet sand: wait...
Wait; anticipate the wave
Recedes. Toes make shapes.
...

When under the 5 o'clock sun
Under your skin
You skim
From the crusts of the reckless babble
...

(I just wanted to say
that all that I've said
and all that I will
has never been enough
...

...

And now you breath into
The dead man
...

In the cold night
The warm engine reverberates
The warmth that ferments
Between filled spaces
...

He said he didn't want much.
And she said she didn't want much.

And that's just what they got.

I Know You Know Me

So one day
I was walking down the street
When I met a man who claimed to know me
Only
I don’t think it’s true, you know,
'Cause how could he have possibly known me?

'Cause knowing me
Would mean
Knowing what I feel like
Right now
Now
While you sit waiting
For a divine revelation
And I’m thinking
What a funny situation
That you think you know me
From bygone days
But don’t know that you make my fingers twitch
While I try and hold
Your gaze

So the man he says he knows me
And I think
That’s funny
It’s funny enough to make me smile
So I just stop to
Think a while
That in that case
He probably knows
That I smile with my eyes
And not with my lips

I smirk with lips though
At people who think they know me

(So yeah)
I smile with my eyes
I smirk with my lips
And I lie through my teeth
I lie to you every time we meet
'Cause while you were thinking you knew me
I was sort of hoping you didn’t, honey

Now let’s just say you knew
What you were talking about
I’ll set aside my cynicism
And give you
Benefit of the doubt
So I’m trusting you
To know where to find me
When I’m lost
'Cause I tend to lose myself
Every now and then
I mean, if I’m reading a book
It’s bound to happen
Just like you might then find me
With Janis Joplin
Or perhaps it’s a day when I’m lost
In a cup of coffee
And if you look closely
You just might see
That I got lost
While you were talking
To me.
Sometimes you might find me
Lost in a crowd
Hey, there’s a reason I’m not loud
You know
And if you think you’ll find me there
Just try looking for me when I’m playing with my hair
(that’s how you know I’m really thinking)
Oh and
Don’t forget to keep me from drowning
Every time it rains
'Cause believe you me
It’s easy to lose yourself
When you’ve got a mess for a brain.
So I’m guessing you’ll always find a way to
Find me
As far as you’re concerned
It’s gotta be easy.
But if you ever think I elude you
That’s only because I can be
A mystery.
But let’s face it.
You knew that already.

Now I’m going to be honest
With you
I just feel that I really have to
'Cause when you said you knew me
I swear to you
It just killed me
'Cause you thought you finally had knowledge of
Something
And now I’m sitting here
Wondering
How I’m ever going to take it away from you
Your only
Plaything.

And have I told you of this one time
When met a man
Who claimed to know me?
He was so off the mark
It’s not even funny
Come to think of it
I sort of hate him
'cause he was the only man who said he knew me
And I haven’t been known since.
