Sharon Peeples Poems

At altitude, winter arrives many moons
Before her appointed time. Red, gold, russet
And orange leaves desperately cling to conifers
In a vain attempt to hold hands with fall just a bit longer.
...

It began simply enough...
A smile etched with the impenetrable red
Of a clown's resolve, concealing reality
From casual passersby....
...

winter me with frosted leaves
and snowmen wearing hats
children sledding...pink of cheeks
wet boots on doorway mats
...

Rumbling through the finally dark house,
I welcome relief from this day of solitude and
...

A first born son to call my own,
With joy and pride I brought you home.
There nestled in the cradle bough...
A mother's heart remembers now.
...

The old familiar parts were played on stage.
A captive group there stilled beneath the page.
With song and dance those resin smiles to share,
Gave ambiance of grace upon the stairs.
...

If ever I could see your face
Or feel your presence near,
I'd need not wander through this place
Without your hand to steer.

And The City Has Disappeared

At altitude, winter arrives many moons
Before her appointed time. Red, gold, russet
And orange leaves desperately cling to conifers
In a vain attempt to hold hands with fall just a bit longer.

Sometimes winter sneaks in while we are sleeping
And we wake to the beauty of her first snowfall.
Even heaps of trash are beautiful covered in diamond white!
At other times she blows in with fierce velocity at mid day,
Catching light sweater wearing workers by surprise at days end.

But not to worry...snowploughs and salty chemicals are always
Prepared to come to the rescue. Unless of course the temperature
Has fallen well below zero and that beautiful diamond white loveliness
Measures five feet ten inches....and the city has all but disappeared!
