Biography of Shania K. Younce

Shania K. Younce poet

I read a lot. I like to hike. I enjoy simple. I like to write. I love God. I like taking part in church. I go to Calvary Baptist Church. I'm currently working on a book. I love to sing. I sing all the time. Sometimes I just start singing and don't even realize it until some-one tells me. It is such a happy feeling just to sing aloud. Even if no one is there to listen. However, all of nature can here me. I love to watch the sunrise and set. I once saw a sunrise that was beyond compare. It was the brightest one I've ever seen.

I like going for runs in the morning, after noon, and evenings. I find it sort of refreshing! Sometimes I wake up in the morning and can hardly wait to see the sunrise. I like watching the stars and moon fade into the background. As if they never were, yet they always are. The bracing of the cold air wrapping me like a blanket. It keeps me awake.

Today is the 17 of March. My brother and sister turned 14 today. It was a blast. They had thier party today. Today is Saint Patrick's Day or Saint Patty's Day. My family has irish in our blood line.

Today is the 25 of March. The morning sky was very lovely. School today was swell. I'm in high school. It didn't rain here in Washington today. I signed up for the talent show. I'm gonna sing. I love listening to music. It just awakens the soul. You feel it in every part of your body! Music just revives all sorts of wonderful memories. Choir is so fun. I enjoy it very much. The director is totaly cool. He makes learning completely worth it. French is totaly cool. Right now I'm listening to a song. It is one of my favorites. Big Paradise Put Up A Parking Lot.

Lately I've been thinking a lot. Right, now I'm been trying to write a few different types of books. I stopped writing one book. It just wasn't turning out the way I wanted it to. It was missing something. I first thought of it for a simple English assignment. Then it turned out that I could hardly stop writing about it. I could hardly stop thinking about it. The theme the teacher assigned us was Halloween. It was a couple weeks away. I never did complete the assignment. It had so, many pages front and back. I guess it didn't really matter anyways, she just wanted it turned in!

My grandma k. taught me some stuff about art. Without her I wouldn't know how to appreciate it in it's simplest form to it's most elegant. Apparently people my age don't know how to do that anymore. So, I've heard. I'm glad she taught me. I thank her and I thank God for her.

These other books I'm writing I seem to have a problem with. I start writing the beginning, but I don't seem to be able finish the beginning. By then I've jumped into the middle of it. Even, thoe I haven't even written it and I already know the ending. How do I transition from beginning, middle, and end! ?

Summer is almost over.

Summer has been over for four days now. On Tuesday I started school. I'm taking general ed English for the very first time. I'm also taking general ed math for the very first time. I'm very happy about it. I'm now in twelfth grade.

I am trying to do an English assignment for school. However, I'm having trouble writing it. It is supposed to be a college entrance essay. I'm going to post it on here. I will welcome all comments as long as it is honest!

All of my English essay is true and did happen. However, I'm not very good at writing it.

This is my writing prompt. 'Tell us a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.'

Brain Storming List: Church, Friends, An Experience, Idea, Promises, Part Of Me, Who I Am, A Thought, Tell A Story, Bits Of Family, Understanding, Accepting, Beliefs

Sample Introduction: I had a fortunate encounter with two little girls next door. Which led me to an experience. That has taken a good majority of my life, so far. During this time I made promises to myself. These promises and those two little girls helped me to find something that I truly believe. It is a part of me and who I am.

Rough Draft:

I had a fortunate encounter with two little girls next door. Which led me to an experience. That has taken a good majority of my life, so far. During this time I made promises to myself. These promises and those two little girls helped me find something that I truly do believe. It is a part of me and who I am.

My family and I moved to, Yelm, when I was five. We had unpacked everything. A few mornings later my mom strapped my brother and sister into their stroller. We were going the mail box. When I met those two little girls, Arianna, and Abbey. On a particularly foggy morning.

From that day forward we were friends. I couldn't read, write, spell, and speak very well. They helped me with all these things. Everyday after I got home from school we would sit on their porch and practice reading aloud the Bible. We would spell words out of the Bible. We would practice writing letters together. They even picked random words and helped me to pronounce it. I have a lot of people to thank, but I have those two friends to thank most.

One day they begged my parents to let me go to church on a Sunday and I did, too. My parents finally gave in. So, I went to church. I had never really been to a church before.

It was truly wonderful. I loved every moment of it. I enjoyed learning about God. From then I was considered a church goer and I still am. Ever, sense I've been faithful in going to church.

I have come to believe deeply in God. To the chosen denomination to which I belong is Baptist.

One day I was over at my friends home, Arianna. We had played and talked all day. She asked me if I had ever heard of a particular Bible story and I answered no. So, she told me all about it. Then proceeded to ask me if I had ever been saved and I said no.

That night happened to be very clear out. You could have seen the stars. More than you could see them now. That night we sat on her porch. She led me in the common prayer that the church had taught us. We bowed our heads and closed our eyes. She told me to repeat word for word after her. So, I did.

I accepted God into my heart. I was six years old then. I felt a lightness and was completely happy. It was the first time I could ever actually remember feeling that way. It was a different type of happiness and lightness. I rarely ever feel that way. When I do I tend to enjoy it. Before reality slips back into my sight.

On one Sunday school lesson we were taught one of the ten commandments. It was to respect thy elders. Which is why I promised the, Good Lord, that I in first grade would behave on every year of school. I've kept that promise, so far.

Due to the fact that I am religious I as well have strong morals. Morals that are thought to be little more old fashioned. Morals people believe to have faded away. Morals which I believe still hold true today.

I believe that you should always strive to do more than what you can. I may never reach the peak of perfection. However, I must try for it. I also have found that if I try to do more than what I can do I have better results.

That's as far as I could get right now.

A long time member of the church I attend past away yesterday. Her name was Poke. She had been a part of the church for a little over 19 years.

Have you ever woken up to a song you really like? I have. I really enjoy listening to music. I just happened to wake up at dawn.

Yesterday, was the last day of the first semester of twelfth grade year. I think I'll go for walk.

This is the first week I'm taking creative writing in general ed. This is assignment is true of me. My first assignment is to write a 100 word story about me.

Rough Draft 1:

Hi, my name is Shania.K. Younce. I don't know exactly what I'm going to tell you about my life. I could tell you that I'm religious, love to sing, and I have strong beliefs. I could tell you about my thoughts in there occurrence. But, I'm going to tell about some particular frustrations of mine.

I've always liked the idea of poetry. In fact I liked the idea of writing. The one category of writing that I really got into was poetry. I started out writing about death. Mostly due to the fact that the old people in my family kept dying.

I was in seventh grade when I wrote my first death poem. My sister is my best critic. However, my teachers thought they should be concerned for me. My parents thought it was demented and my grandma na-na called me morbid. My brother tried to hide my poems and my sister threw them away.

I realized that I needed to switch the subject or aspect of my life I had chosen to write about. The reason being that the chosen would take me far to long. So, I chose another true aspect of my life for the 1oo word assignment.

Rough Draft 4:

Hi, my name is Shania.K. Younce. I want to tell you about some particular frustrations of mine.

I hate forgetting things. For example I went on a field trip and forgot I had even went.

I had gone this on this field trip in nineth grade. Then in tenth grade I went on it again. My friends started talking about it the first time that we had gone. They asked me if I remembered. I said no. They tried jogging my memory every which way. To this day that field trip is still non-existent.

Today my friends and family tell me things as a favor. But, I do them favors all the time.

I can't let you view my final draft until it has been graded or; whatever, the teacher plans on doing with it.

This weekend on Friday the 31st I get to take the public bus for the first time. I'm going to spend the weekend with one of my very good friend Tif.

April 19th, year 2014, I went to my senior prom. It was wonderful. I wont forget it. My last mandatory school year is very close to an end.

I´m graduated!

'Yet Yesterday'

Yet, yesterday hath brought me a dream, so fair.
That yesterdays dream had last me longer than thine years.
That far going sea beyond its own swells there let it be.
In the morn when that far yesterday hath not gone.
In the land where yesterday dwells.
In those far seeing years yesterday had stayed to sail.
Yet, yesterday hath brought me a dream, so long stayed we to dream a year.
