Sepp Mall

Sepp Mall Poems

Amid the sea spray the words become frayed
like clouds
in pale April
and the wind / draws out
music from the houses
...

In the heart's glimmering ventricle / the year
ends
in waves the night breaks in
over the things / that
...

Spring, time and time again
a green
thrusting up towards the light
and caressing couples under the trees
...

Sepp Mall Biography

Sepp Mall (*1955, Graun, South Tyrol, Italy) lives and works in Merano, Italy. He has been writing poetry, prose, radio and theatre plays since 1971 and his work has been published in anthologies and journals. He is a founding member of the South Tyrolean Authors’ Association (SAV) and is a member of the Graz Authors’ Assembly and IG Autoren (Vienna). Sepp Mall’s poems initially appear as simple to understand and coherent in themselves, but there are dislocations between the words. Brackets and blurring diminish the voice, which makes it difficult to identify who is actually speaking. The reader suddenly hears sentences that no one has spoken.)

Farther out

Amid the sea spray the words become frayed
like clouds
in pale April
and the wind / draws out
music from the houses
pieces of shattering glass
here / you can touch me
(you say)
in the no-man's-land
in the brushwood / between the years
