Saviour Otubelu Poems

I sat on a pavement waiting for her
But when she appeared I lowered my gaze
I guess she stood staring in great wonder
For my head was bowed like one in a daze
...

Love never fades but feelings do
Love is a loyal servant, ever true
True friendship is built with blocks of love
However rough the wind chooses to blow
...

Upon your face I'll cast my steady gaze
Gaze upon mine too, I implore, my love
Love is the light that brightens my pale heart
Heart of a goddess, listen to my song
...

Every time I feel you by my side
My heart does glow with tremendous pride
How my soul pines for you, my dearest queen
A jewel like you I have never seen
...

The tree stood tall
Like a giant
Never to fall
...

Albeit I may wear a smile on my face
Though I may express no sour grimace
Though tears may not flow down my haggard cheeks
I’ve lost the courage to fight- I am weak
...

Brutally thrown out into the cruel streets
We are forced to stand on our frail feet
Alongside other children, we cannot run
Will our eyes ever behold the bright sun?
...

Look at that rose, what a bright red flower!
Sweet to smell and to the eyes a wonder
But concealed underneath are sharp thorns
Dare to touch them- they greet you with scorn
...

Music of your love, sweet rhythmic music
Flows into my heart like swift water flows
Magic of love, charm me with your magic
Rose, your love is a sweet-smelling red rose
...

Behold, the heavenly stars, how bright!
I hear the clouds whisper your name each night
The trees kneel before your graceful frame
I think they are also calling your name
...

The stars number in their thousands
The jewels and precious stones too
Flowers and trees, how plentiful!
But you- there is only one you
...

Who taught me to live a cherished life
and nurtured me till I grew up?
Who taught my lips never to tell a lie?
No one but Dear Mother

The Bashful Lover

I sat on a pavement waiting for her
But when she appeared I lowered my gaze
I guess she stood staring in great wonder
For my head was bowed like one in a daze

Moments strolled by, and I raised my head
As soon as our eyes met my heart sank
Up till this moment no words had been said
I had nothing to say- my head was blank

Deafened by the silence I tried to speak
But to the roof of my mouth my tongue clove
At last I did speak but my voice was weak
Too weak to express the flames of my love

Moments passed, she was gone; I banged my head
I stamped my feet and bit my finger
I reproached myself for the words unsaid
And wished for yet another chance with her
