A Captain's Love

I sailed the seas for many a year
No friendly shore was found.
While many would serve well enough
My heart turned me around

She came at first, a gentle breeze
Lending a helping hand
But as the winds did fill my sails
I stopped yearning for land

I did align my sails with her
My ship got the push it needed
As they got, help from the wind
The oarsmen's strength receded

My first mate, the mindful one,
Noticed before I saw.
Observe he did, my growing love
Conclusions he did draw

He called for me and did request
To meet as soon as be
‘An urgent matter' he said it was
He hoped I too would see

When I met him, he said I had,
Been taken by the winds
He said I didn't realize it yet
There were many subtle hints

I argued back, 'the winds are just
Something that soothe me so.
My heart is mine, don't be alarmed
I still choose where I to go! '

So I sailed on, wind in my sails
Further every day
Wind had crept into my heart
That drove fatigue away

One night I stood, at the mast,
The moonlight passed right through me
The ship lost its heading, I'd found mine
But my heart was lost to me

I felt her fingers glide through mine
Each breath I took was slow
Her sweet caress on my face I felt
Each time the wind did blow

One calm day, the clear still sea,
It showed me my own face
Without the winds, that guided me,
My ship had lost her grace.

It was then I did accept the fact
The winds were more than air
My first mate's warnings echoed through
My heart had been laid bare

I craved her strong, violent love,
The calmness drove me wild
Without her powerful embrace
I was but a helpless child

That night, I lay on my bunk,
Dreaming but with eyes open,
A thunderous blast, then filled the air,
The silence had been broken

I ran out in haste onto the deck
The sound was one I knew,
I had waited for it for many a day
The ache in my heart grew

The angry dark clouds that filled the sky
Scared my crew into their beds
But the storm in my heart, had finally passed
Eager, I looked on ahead

A flash of lightning lit the sky
Our time of wait was over
A crashing thunder, my lovers call
She came in all her power

I felt her kiss, burn hot in each
Cold drop that touched my skin
Her strong love that, blew over me
Reeled my lost heart right in

The skies lit up, the seas did too
Waves crashed onto our hull
But aside from my own lover, to me
All else was just a lull

Next morning I awoke, lying on the deck
And looked all around me
The night of passion had damaged the ship
Her mark was clean to see

When I stood up, again I felt
A hidden presence there
Not strong and hot, but calmingly light
Like a breath of clean fresh air

My first mate came up to me
And said with a smile on his face
'It seems I lost the fight, just so
But we must get back to pace…

It is clear now, you can't sail without,
So let's take her into course…
I'll chart with her in mind so that,
We can sail with renewed force'

And so from that day forward I have
Sailed for years and then a few
I sail not for shores, nor trade nor money,
But for the beautiful windy hues

And with me she sails where ever I go
Though moody she is, tis true,
A breeze, a gust, a storm full of lust,
Every time she's someone new!
